Selling Your Electric Wheelchair on Craigslist

August 22, 2011 – Is it time for a new electric wheelchair for you? Do you need to sell your existing electric wheelchair to pay for the new one that you are going to buy? I was in this very same situation a few months back and I used Craigslist.org to sell my old electric wheelchair and the process could not have gone smoother. A friend of mine guided me though the entire process and told me what pitfalls to avoid and hence I am now writing this to help other people who want to sell their electric wheelchairs on Craigslist.org.

The first thing to do is to take a picture of your electric wheelchair. Then go to a site like Amazon.com and search for the model of electric wheelchair that you have. Once you find it you will know what the price is today for the same model when new. You will also see the second hand versions of the same model that others are selling and this will give you an idea of how much you should charge for your used electric wheelchair.

The next step is to post your electric wheelchair classified in the Craigslist electric wheelchairs section of Craigslist.org. It goes without saying that you should be as honest as possible about the condition of your electric wheelchair as this will avoid any unpleasant surprises and will make sure you do not waste other people’s time as well as your own.

Once you have done this the important thing to remember to avoid getting scammed or swindled is to never agree to ship your electric wheelchair anywhere in return for payment. Insist on having face to face dealings with all potential buyers and only cash transactions for the purchase of your electric wheelchair. When dealing with a buyer face to face, be prepared to bargain and also be prepared to come down on the price a little if you want to close the deal.
